Our clients have the opportunity to look through thousands of product samples here at our Wauwatosa design center. Seeing a tile or cabinet sample in person can really influence the selection process and helps our clients envision the cohesive look of their space. Once these samples have served their purpose or have been discontinued, we do our best to ensure that they have a second act.
Instead of throwing out these materials, we donate them to local art programs. Most recently, we donated tile samples to Big Bend Elementary in Mukwonago. Because we love hearing about peoples’ creative processes, we asked Mrs. Kratochvil, the Big Bend Elementary art teacher, to keep us in the loop about how these materials were used. We recently received an update and were thrilled to learn how our donations have been transformed!
Mrs. Kratochvil and other art teachers came together from across the district to create a custom mosaic tile table with a whimsical assortment of the donated tiles.
Once the pattern was established, the next step was to carefully grout over the tiles and then paint the table legs to tie the look together.
This was not just a fun art project, it will also raise money for a wonderful cause! The table will be donated to the Mukwonago Area Public Schools Education Foundation’s annual auction on October 25th. This organization raises money to help fund grants to enrich local classroom activities. You can learn more about the Foundation (or better yet – donate!) at www.mukwonagoeducationfoundation.org/donate/
If you just can’t get enough of this table, take a look at this “Making Of” video made by Mrs. Kratochvil! You can find it at

We think there will be some tough be competition to win this table! After all – what’s not to love? This project has it all: recycling, art, style and the potential to raise a lot of money for education! We are anxious to start the bidding!
